Optical Switches From Madison Sweep the Globe
Applied Sweepers was established in 1965 in Scotland and introduced the "Green Machine" line of suction sweepers in the 1980s. With its North American office in Sharon Hill, PA, Applied's Green Machine sales have been in excess of 10,000 units and are in service in over 40 countries. In the U.S., some of the more noticeable success stories are:
- The Times Square BID clean team in New York City has been using Green Machines since 1996.
- The city of Chicago uses the Green Machine to help maintain the city's cleanliness and has added a recycling component to their daily sidewalk sweeping operation.
- San Francisco's D.P.W. currently uses 12 Green Machines as part of its overall strategy in areas of high pedestrian traffic.
The plastic LLHP series optical switch, mounted in the header tank, is used as the coolant reservoir. The optical switch is able to provide reliable level indication during operating conditions while withstanding the sweeper's vibration and shock. Two LLHP sensors, containing no moving parts, were selected with additional electronics supplied.
